Sustainability Investments

Sustainability Policy

Our sustainability policy is a work in progress and aspires to go beyond the traditionally accepted Environmental Social Governance (ESG) criteria. We define Sustainability Investments as investments focused on holistic sustainability, i.e., sustainability from an economic, environmental, social, and spiritual perspective. We are working on a way to define our core belief in 'holistic' sustainability with easily understood indicators and metrics which demonstrate the interdependent nature of economic, environmental, social, and spiritual sustainability.

Our minimum requirement today is that an investment not knowingly maximize one of these returns at the expense of another, i.e., avoiding the negative indicators spelled out in the following chart. For instance, a potential investment cannot maximize economic return at the expense of environmental and social returns. As importantly, a potential investment cannot maximize environmental return at the expense of social and economic returns. Our goal is to invest in opportunities that demonstrate a blended return, and we believe that this minimum requirement can ultimately develop into a positive blended return expectation.

We know that science today cannot provide all the answers regarding interdependencies. The systemic implications of manufacturing or other processes are often too complicated to fully understand. However, we are willing to take a risk and believe it is our responsibility to act today even with limited knowledge.
